The doors

August 31, 2010

Our game has a stage select, that allows you to play old levels again and again using new abilities that you hadn’t the first time you visited them.

But is not a menu, the stage select is a level itself. A safe cave without enemies, or spikes, where you can wander and enter to the different areas through doors.

We talked about these areas and these doors in an early post of this same blog, but there is a little bit more to explain.

When you enter one of the five different doors you will get into a smaller cave with smaller doors, one per level.

These are the level doors:

The ruins door… No, is not matrix, is an ancient civilization with strange technology!

The cave door. Of pure stone, completely made by mother nature!

The mine door, completely minimalist… we are on a mine not in a fashion museum!

Jungle door… decorated with all kinds of plants (even trifids)And the volcano door… it doesn’t seem much safe, isn’t it?

There is one more door… is not easy to find, and is very strange… personally I don’t know where you will go if you use it. (Actually, is a lie. Of course I know, but I love mysteries…)

There is just one thing to say about this door… is as cute as one of those funny little creatures!

Game recommendation: Trine

August 30, 2010

Today we are going to talk about another game that also influenced us a lot: Trine.

This finnish game is about three different characters (an attractive thief, an inexperienced wizard, and a mighty fat warrior) that accidentally join their souls using an ancient artifact created for joining souls.

They will also have to fight the evil forces that are destroying the peace in our world… but actually that doesn’t seems to be the main problem. The most dangerous thing that the “heroes” will face is the environment itself: Plenty of deadly spikes, burning lava pits, or inaccessible cliffs.

You will have to combine the different skills of the three characters to pass through the obstacles. The warrior can use his shield to stop dangerous stuff, the wizard can summon boxes and platforms and the thief can throw arrows and hang around using an awesome awesome rope. You can switch between them using a button, but it will be funnier if you play with two another friends; one per character. It really offers and interesting and original gameplay.

This game completely beautyful. The ambient of the different stages is simply great. Everything is done with so much care… the light, the assets… all the environment is a piece of art. It uses 2D mechanics and controls, as you advance always from left to right of the stage, but everything is built with 3D models.

The main problem with this game is that sometimes it can become frustrating… some puzzles are simply too difficult to beat and sometimes you simply end up jumping to your own death again and again until you reach the other side of a gap.

The wizard is the most original character… is great, but very difficult to control!

Why “the creature” is similar to trine?

The creature is another kind of game. Is very different in lots of aspects, but we also use a 3D ambient with 2D mechanics. We decided to use this kind of control for two reasons… to make the game easier for novice gamers and to invest more time creating gameplay instead of creating surrounding scenarios or dealing with camera issues or facial expression (guys, remember… if you are designing a third person game; the camera will become one of your worst enemies… and the facial expression).

We have introduced also a character that uses original skills. They are not the common ones (jumping and shooting); and we also have made necessary to master them to fulfill your objectives. The awesome tongue of the creature is also suspiciously similar to the awesome rope of the thief (though it doesn’t work exactly the same way)

Finally, in our game, the environment will be your worst enemy too. Yes, our cave will be crowded with strange monsters… but sometimes a closed door, or a bunch of spikes can be worst than anything.

These are the similar features… we are trying to make similar scenarios too, but they are still not as great!

This is all, the truth is that the game basis, the mechanics and the objectives are very different, but it is impossible to compare them a little bit. Maybe because there are just a few games that look like the old platform ones nowadays…

Keep keeping an eye on us, folks! And remember…

the creature will be released,

From Draft to Craft

August 29, 2010

We have developed a new trailer, with more ingame features (we have received some comments saying that the first trailer was funny, but it would be better with ingame content)

So here it is: “From Draft to Craft”, a short video showing the evolution of the project, from the paper to the computers!

More information every day in this blog; thank you so much for your support!

We love you so much that we are giving you another free wallpaper!!

The Mask – Part2

August 28, 2010

It was a bad idea to get out from my secret refuge and explore the cave once again. Everything is so changed…

That creepy face painted on the walls… I still don’t know what it is, but is more than a simple decoration. Now the cave is crowded by strange monsters wearing this symbol as a mask. Everything seems to be profaned.

I don’t know what they are; I have never seen anything similar before… and they are not friendly at all. I have to be careful if I don’t want to get killed by one of these abominations.

I want to know if they really have a face under the mask… maybe that mask is actually their face. I will try to steal one of these masks if I find one of them sleeping.

I need to know more…

Creature skills: Wall walking

August 27, 2010

The wall walking is a very useful skill if you are trying to reach high places.

The creature can walk on sticky surfaces no matter if they are grounds, walls or ceilings.

But it has some limitations, is easy to fall down if you do strange things such as change your form, use your horns, jump… if you want to stay stuck, I beg you: just walk! (you may find an uncomfortable landing on spikes if you don’t follow this advice).

Anyway… you will only be able to stick on these strange green mucus… but who or what has spread them along the cave? It’s difficult to know, but maybe you can find the answer inside the cave…

OST – The mine song

August 26, 2010

Another song from our original OST!

This song is from (guess what) the mine ambient!

The mine song

This song is not as natural as the “crystal lullaby”. It sounds more artificial as the ambient that represents; long and narrow tunnels built in the rock by an unknown civilization, and full of all kinds of machinery and strange artifacts.

But it has also a walking tempo to keep you on the mood while you try to solve the different puzzles and obstacles that you will find in that woody ambient.

The Creature enemies: The sniper

August 25, 2010

—One of the evil masked foes that the creature will find inside the cave is the dangerous sniper. Here are some important facts that will help you to understand and face them:
  • Snipers don’t need to defend themselves due to their ability to shrink and hide underground, where they can remain for long periods of time absorbing calcium and other minerals of the rocks, which are transformed into food and bullets by its body.
  • Even so, they are incredibly aggressive creatures that really enjoy inflicting pain and practicing marksmanship. They are the only wild creatures of the cave that kill just for pleasure. They are always looking for some prey to riddle and tend to emerge from the rock suddenly to surprise their victims.

  • Their center of spatial perception is located in the extreme of its guns, which gives them an amazing aim, no matter if they are upside down; hanging from the ceiling.

Be careful if you find them… your best option will be to flee from them, but you can try to use their bullets for your own benefit.
